ULTRASOUND
Almar Medical Diagnostic Services has a state of the art ultrasound machine to perform various abdominal scans.
Ultrasound is an investigation that visualizes the internal organs of the human body. It uses very high frequency sound waves which are sent into the body by a transducer (sort of microphone). Because of the high frequency, these cannot be heard by humans. The sound waves are converted to moving images that are visualized on a monitor. These images can be used to make pictures. There are no known harmful consequences of ultrasound technique.
At The Facility
You can report to the reception desk, preferably with your identity papers. Our receptionists will enter your personal details into our patient system after which you are asked to proceed to the cashier to pay for your investigation. Upon payment you may proceed to the appointed waiting room. The attending sonographer / boimedical scientist will come to get you there when it is your turn.
Preparation
Some ultrasound investigations require a specific preparation, such as an abdominal investigation.
The Investigation
You will be asked to take place on the investigation table. To improve conductivity of the sound waves, a gel will be applied to the body part to be investigated. Using the transducer, the sonographer will scan the body part and check for abnormalities on the monitor. This procedure is not painful.
Duration of the Investigation
The investigation will take approximately 15 minutes. After that, you may proceed to waiting area number 2 while the chief radiologist confirms the analysis of the ultrasound radiologist. Once the analysis has been confirmed you will be given the relevant images together with a report.
Typical examinations that we provide are:
Abdominal Ultrasound scans to include the liver, gallbladder, pancreas and kidneys.
Pregnancy scans, to include early dating and third trimester 'well baby' scans.
Female pelvic scans to assess gynaecological health (Uterus and ovaries).
Screening scans for Testicular Cancer.
Any other examination that you may require can be discussed with us.
All scans are carried out by fully qualified and state registered sonographers. Results are available immediately. Images and in some cases videos can be provided.
